There is no comparison to be made, with regards to the process differences between shooting digital and film. They are completely different experiences and demand different things. They also enable different creative and exploratory methods for the photographer. So while the photos, may for the most part appear similar and include the same subject, they will also have different spirits.

Questions of aspect – the Panorama

Think of when you last saw a shoreline, stood atop a vineyard, or hiked up to see a mountain range. The eyes and head sweep, they move, as if enslaved to what they behold. Standard vision, is insufficient to view anything monumental, be it a towering creation or a spectacular part of nature. We see vast greatness in panoramic. We need to move to see it, and in turn, we are moved.

Questions of aspect – 1:1

Picture a furrowed brow of concentration, and with it the bringing of acuity. Focused thought, and rigorous synthesis. The first task, the logical human step, is to find the edges, create the boundaries of what we need to focus on. We see with precision in this way, we see in squares. A bounded shape with simple rules, that we need to be effective. And while the world tells us to think outside these boxes, its only from this place that we can identify how to break the boarders. Squares are essential to our condition; we focus, in squares.
